Tutorials in Electromagnetic Compatibility

Contact by e-mail

Welcome to our new, no-nonsense pages providing you with essential information in the field of electromagnetic compatibility (emc). We will be providing a growing number of topics, presented as slide shows, fully narrated and supplied on CD.

Compare the advantages of acquiring tutorial information from a CD - you don't have to travel to a seminar, you can review the information at your convenience, and your colleagues can also share the knowledge provided.

Books are a valuable source of technical information, but what is often required is a focussed explanation of a particular topic, or an overview of a subject, explained and illustrated by an expert. That is where Westbay's tutorials come in.

Understanding the Decibel
We started things off with a subject that is simple in principle, but is capable of causing much confusion - the humble decibel. 'Understanding the Decibel'  is a snappy presentation that no lab should be without. Whenever someone comes along asks "What did you say a dBm was?", sit them down with this for twenty minutes! Includes a software dB Calculator.

Transmission Line Effects on Digital Signals
Modern integrated circuits can feature pulse risetimes of 1ns and less, and track lengths of only 100mm length can act as transmission lines. If not designed and terminated correctly, gross signal distortion can occur, producing multiple transitions. This tutorial provides the theoretical background to understand and deal with this phenomenon, plus a software package to simulate fast pulses on transmission lines.

Bookmark this page, and keep up to date with our new tutorials as they are announced.
